The National Hockey League (NHL) has partnered with the NHL Players’ Association and the NHL Alumni Association to partner with NFT platform Sweet to create a marketplace and collections of non-fungible tokens. According to Dave Lehanski, the NHL's executive vice president of business development and innovation, the project will be in “between a full-fledged NFT trading platform and a site that offers a limited-time NFT drops.” The marketplace is expected to launch by the start of the 2022-2023 season.

What are the prospects? The platform will offer NFT in the form of "cinematic, high-definition game highlights from past and present NHL seasons." According to Lehanski, the league has not yet decided which blockchain the marketplace will run on. He added:

“So we’ve seen enough to know and to believe that there’s going to be a lot of value in NFT’s as consumer products, certainly with regard to digital collectibles. And then you start to think about everything else, right? Tickets as NFTs, avatars as NFTs for metaverse experiences. There is so many different formats it can take.”

In late March, WWE Wrestling Promotion partnered with the sports platform Fanatics to develop and release NFTs. The collectible cards will feature famous WWE fighters and iconic wrestling events. The launch is scheduled for late 2022.

In June, smart contract platform VeChain partnered with the UFC Mixed Martial Arts League. The platform's logos and branding will be integrated into various online broadcasts and sporting events.
