What’s new? Since September 13, the Opera Crypto Browser supports MetaMask and other leading cryptocurrency wallets. The browser has also released an innovative multi-wallet management tool, Wallet Selector. The feature allows users to choose which of their wallets they want to interact with a particular decentralized application (dApp) or website. The Opera Crypto Browser has updated the user interface ahead of The Merge, which will see the Ethereum network switch from the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus algorithm to Proof-of-Stake (PoS).

Opera’s press release

What else does the press release say? With Wallet Selector, users will be able to choose the desired wallet directly in the browser address bar without the use of third-party extensions. In this way, the feature will automate the process of switching between cryptocurrency wallets when exchanging tokens or transacting with dApps. According to Tomasz Stawarz, Engineering Director at Opera, Wallet Selector was created based on user feedback.

Susie Batt, Crypto Ecosystem Lead at Opera, called the upcoming Ethereum upgrade “the most important technological update in the history of crypto.” The transition to PoS will make the blockchain more scalable, secure, and sustainable, she added. Batt also said that Opera is the only browser that is truly ready for this upgrade, offering users all the Web 3.0 tools they need.

What else does the update include? The Opera Crypto Browser has strengthened user protection against hacks and phishing. The browser has also allowed the use of human-readable wallet handles, including email addresses and decentralized domain names, Ethereum Name Service (ENS).

The Crypto Corner service has a new section — Hot Tweets, which includes the latest popular tweets about cryptocurrencies.

In addition, Opera Crypto Browser has integrated PancakeSwap, a DeFi application based on BNB Chain. This allows one to trade tokens directly from one’s wallet. BNB Chain was integrated into the browser back in May 2022, opening up access to blockchain-based dApps and allowing BNB tokens to be bought for fiat, sent, and received through the browser’s built-in crypto wallet.

In 2019, Opera Crypto became the first major browser to accept bitcoin payments. In late March 2022, the web browser added eight networks at once to facilitate access to dApps: Bitcoin, Polygon, Solana, StarkEx, Ronin, Celo, Nervos, and Cosmos-based IXO.

In late February, Opera announced integration with DeversiFi, a StarkWare-powered solution. This made Opera for Android the first mobile browser with an Ethereum L2 wallet available.
