What’s new? The number of addresses holding bitcoin has surpassed the 40 million mark for the first time in history, according to the crypto analytics platform IntoTheBlock. According to a Twitter post, the number of addresses with the first cryptocurrency dropped in February but then continued to rise and set new highs.
What had happened before? The previous high was recorded on March 14, when the average number of addresses reached 39,7 million. Since the beginning of 2022, 888 000 new addresses with balance in bitcoin have joined the network. The accumulation of the asset has increased in recent months. The total balance in the wallets of investors holding the cryptocurrency for more than one year was more than 11,7 million BTC, showing an upward trend since November 2021.
Earlier, the number of bitcoins on exchanges fell to a 2018 low. As of March 21, Bitcoin has a supply of 2,51 million and Ethereum has 21,6 million coins.
