What does the company’s representative say? Dara Khosrowshahi has stated that his company will accept cryptocurrencies in the future:
“Is Uber going to accept crypto in the future? Absolutely. At some point. This isn’t the right point, but we will.”
This is not the first time Khosrowshahi has spoken out in support of cryptocurrencies. In early 2021, he said that some car-sharing applications were going to consider digital assets as a currency for transactions.
What had happened before? In early 2021, Tesla, an electric car company, added bitcoin to its balance sheet and started accepting it as a payment method, but later canceled this feature. The company cited environmentally unfriendly ways of mining cryptocurrencies and the use of non-renewable energy sources. However, the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, said that the process may resume in the future.
