What’s new? US Treasury undersecretary Nellie Liang has told Reuters that the department is developing an educational program for crypto investors. The Financial Literacy Education Commission’s educational materials will focus on the principles of cryptocurrencies' operation and how they differ from other assets. Liang stated that the target audience is people who “have limited access to mainstream financial services.”
What is this program created for? As more and more people are interested in investing in cryptocurrencies, the US government is concerned about the risks of losing funds. Liang stated:
“We’re hearing more and more about investors and households who are purchasing crypto assets, and we recognize the complexity of how some of these assets operate. It felt like this is an area also where more education and more awareness could be helpful.”
The Financial Literacy Education Commission will be made up of 20 different agencies, including the SEC.
