What’s new? Worldcoin developers have started to publish information about the Orb retinal scanning device, through which users undergo an identification procedure to join the blockchain project and receive native tokens WLD as a gift. The company intends to open up access to its technology to achieve full decentralization of the project.
What else is known? The company has shared details about its own hardware, posting all relevant files in its repository.
The files are open-sourced under the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) license, making them free and publicly available. However, the information is prohibited from being used to create surveillance applications or other tools that could harm the rights of individuals.
Thanks to the initiative, other firms will be able to produce their own Orb integrated with the World ID protocol designed to ensure digital privacy.
Last August, Worldcoin said it was ready to hand over its user identification technology to governments.
In mid-November, the weekly token volume of AI-based blockchain projects exceeded $2 billion, with the increase largely driven by WLD transactions.
At the end of the year, Worldcoin stopped offering the verification service in India, France, and Brazil. Regulators in many countries are investigating the project due to concerns about breaches of user privacy.
At the time of writing, WLD ranks 191st in the cryptocurrency market capitalization ranking with a market cap of $261 million and is trading at $2,24, having added 4,4% overnight.
