What’s new? Anatoly Aksakov, head of the State Duma Committee on Financial Market, stated that Russians owning cryptocurrency should declare it. At the same time, he noted that every investor has to undergo mandatory identification. He said this in an interview with Duma TV.

Why did Aksakov make such a conclusion? He stressed that there is no stability in the digital currency market. The prices of cryptocurrencies can quickly change by 20-30% in one direction or another:
“Therefore, it is important to regulate the market, to protect, first of all, our citizens, to establish taxation and certain rights for cryptocurrency owners. However, they must be identified.”
What events preceded it? The statement came after a similar call was recently made by Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. He said that cryptocurrency should not remain anonymous.
Anatoly Aksakov is convinced that possession of cryptocurrencies should be reported to the state to prevent their use to finance terrorism, drug trafficking, and acquisition of weapons. He noted that if the Russian authorities decide to legalize mining, it should be registered as an economic activity and taxed.
