What’s new? The Dark Storm hacker group has claimed responsibility for a massive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) cyber attack on X that left thousands of users unable to access the platform for a short period on March 10. This was reported by cybersecurity experts SpyoSecure, citing the Dark Storm Team’s Telegram channel, which was later removed for violating terms of service.

What else is known? The co-founder of non-fungible token marketplace NFTz. me Ed Krassenstein said that he investigated the attack and was in touch with the leader of Dark Storm. The latter said that the reason for the attack was the desire to demonstrate “strength, with no political motives.”

The owner of X, Elon Musk, confirmed that the platform had been subjected to a cyber attack. In an interview with Fox Business on the same day, he noted, “We’re not sure exactly what happened but there was a massive cyberattack to try and bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area.”
This is not the first time X has been subjected to a DDoS attack. Last August, Musk claimed that hackers attacked the platform before his interview with Donald Trump.
The pro-Palestinian hacking group Dark Storm has been active since 2023, has ties to Russia, and is known for its attacks on NATO countries.
The new attack comes amid the launch of the “Take down Tesla” movement, which protests the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), established by Trump and led by Musk, which cuts many government departments.
In an interview with Fox, Musk emphasized that DOGE is “doing the right thing” by cutting spending on initiatives “that very few taxpayers would agree make sense.”
Tesla shares also suffered, losing 15% overnight to hit $222.
