Tether freezes a wallet with 5 million USDT on the Ethereum blockchain

What’s new? According to analytics platform Whale Alert, Tether (the issuer of the largest USDT stablecoin by capitalization) froze an Ethereum address with 5 million USDT in its account on the night of January 19-20.
What is known about the freeze? No information has yet been released from Tether as to who owns the address or what the reason for the freeze is. According to the Dune analytics platform, a total of 828 addresses with assets totaling $444,28 million have been frozen by the company so far.

In October 2022, Tether froze three addresses with USDT worth $8,2 million, and in November it blacklisted the wallet of the bankrupt FTX crypto exchange with 46,36 million USDT on the TRON blockchain. In January, the company blocked three Ethereum addresses with $160 million at the request of the US authorities. Tether noted that it is actively cooperating with regulators, but did not give a reason for the blocking.
