What’s new? Arthur Hayes, the IT director of the Maelstrom fund and former head of the crypto exchange BitMEX, has said during a speech at the Token2049 conference in Dubai that it is a good time to take long positions in both cryptocurrencies and stock market shares. Hayes referred to his oft-repeated argument that the United States will have to print more money for quantitative easing (QE), which could lead to higher cryptocurrency prices.

What else is known? The entrepreneur compared the state of the market at the moment and in the third quarter of 2022. According to him, then we should have feared a fall in prices, given the Fed’s rate hike and a series of high-profile bankruptcies in the crypto industry, which culminated in the collapse of FTX in early November. Despite this, the US authorities have sent $2,5 trillion in liquidity to the markets as part of their repo program.

Similarly, there are now widespread concerns about the state of the economy after Trump raised trade tariffs. The initial announcement caused markets to crash, although some relief came after the increase was suspended for 90 days.

While Fed Chairman Jerome Powell is no fan of Trump and is unlikely to step in to help markets recover, hedge funds will do so by buying Treasuries.

These hedge funds are likely to substantially fund government debt, which will increase liquidity. As a result, the price of bitcoin could rise to $1 million by 2028, Hayes concluded.
