What’s new? Crypto exchange BitMEX, in partnership with Astrobotic Technology, a developer of space robotics, and Bitcoin Magazine, will send a hardware crypto wallet with 1 BTC to the Moon. The wallet, engraved with a public address and private key, will be placed in a rocket to be launched from Kennedy Space Center this summer. BitMEX Acting CEO and Chief Financial Officer Stefan Lutz called the bitcoin launch to the Moon “a breakthrough in human history.”
What else is known about the launch? Along with the wallet, a metal plate with text from the Genesis Block will be sent to the Moon as a tribute to BTC creator Satoshi Nakamoto, as well as a hologram of the Bitcoin Magazine logo. Their replicas will be auctioned off at the Bitcoin 2023 conference, which takes place May 18-20 in Miami. In addition, special commemorative Bitcoin-NFTs will go on sale closer to the rocket launch date. They will also be sold through an auction.
According to the press release, the mission has gone through extensive testing and preparation to ensure the bitcoin wallet is ready for space flight.
