What’s new? Huangpu Customs of China’s Guangdong Province reported that it has seized 49 used bitcoin miners from smugglers. They were trying to smuggle the devices into the country. The smugglers provided false information in their export documents. After a proper inspection of the consignment, the customs officers discovered that it did not consist of shoe materials as stated in the document. The equipment will be disposed of under local regulations.

What was the reason? This case of the Chinese authorities seizing mining devices came amidst the ongoing crackdown on miners in the country. These bans have already resulted in China losing its status as the world’s top bitcoin mining country.
The Shandong Development and Reform Commission (SDRC), has announced the release of a document titled “Report on Rectification of Virtual Currency Mining Activities.” According to the Chinese website 8btc, the regulator announced in the document the start of the supervision of phone lines for “rectification” of cryptocurrency mining activities at the provincial and municipal levels.
