What’s new? The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME Group) will consider creating futures contracts for altcoins, including Solana (SOL) and Cardano (ADA). According to CME’s director of equity and cryptocurrency products Payal Shah, the exchange has started exploring the possibility of launching new futures due to customer requests. He announced this during a panel discussion at CryptoCompare’s Digital Asset Summit 2022 in London.

What does the CME representative say? Shah stated that the launch of altcoin futures will depend on resolving issues around price indices and regulation. In his view, the existing CME futures on BTC and ETH depend on indices based on the price indices of the five exchanges. Speaking about regulation, Shah noted that altcoins in the US currently lack certainty.
What had happened before? The CME launched micro options on Bitcoin and Ethereum in March. Options, unlike conventional futures, give the holder the right, but do not oblige him, to buy or sell assets at a price specified in the contract in advance.
