What’s new? Geyser, a bitcoin blockchain-based crowdfunding platform, has unveiled a new product called Bitcoin Launchpad. It targets early-stage bitcoin projects that are looking to build a community before the official launch. To participate, projects must post submissions to the public feed and gain at least 21 subscribers in 30 days to gain access to the full functionality of the Launchpad.

What else is known? Once projects gain the required number of subscribers, their submissions are converted into standard fundraising pages and Geyser sends email notifications to subscribers.

That said, developers can bypass the waiting period by paying a $21 fee in bitcoins upfront or after a failed 30-day cycle. Geyser applies a standard 5% fee for usage.

The platform’s fee-free services are available to users who host the Lightning bitcoin payment protocol. Unlike traditional crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter or GoFundMe, Geyser runs on Lightning’s non-custodial infrastructure.

The design of the new Launchpad structurally borrows Kickstarter’s “Notify me on launch” feature, but embeds it as a prerequisite rather than an optional app. The model could help creators who can bring micro-communities together before fundraising.

In 2024, Geyser has posted more than 1050 projects, processed 22 000 transactions, and secured about $708 000 in funding. At that time, the average transaction size on the platform had grown to 320 00 satoshis (the smallest fractional part of bitcoin). The best-performing project to date, Bitcoinize POS Machine, has raised 3,5 BTC or $230 000 at the time the fundraising ends in 2024.

Launchpad’s first results will be released in May when the first 30-day cycles are completed. Integration with Nostr messaging for campaign communications and sponsor engagement is expected in the second half of the year.

Geyser was founded in 2022 in Wyoming with backing from Lightning Ventures and MX2 Capital. Its revenue is made up of platform fees, options to increase the number of creators, membership subscriptions within a user category called Guardians, and now accelerated payments on the Launchpad. Geyser aims to be financially self-sufficient by 2026.
