Key points:
- CVM predicts that in 2025, the asset tokenization market in Brazil will exceed $740 million, thanks to new crowdfunding rules.
- These rules allow companies to issue tokens worth up to $2,78 million without intermediaries, making the market more accessible and innovative.
The Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), the equivalent of the US SEC, has stated that the market for asset tokenization — the process of representing real assets as tokens on a blockchain — will exceed $740 million this year.
Bruno Gomes, superintendent of securitization at CVM, explained that this result will be achieved thanks to crowdfunding rules. These rules allow companies to issue tokens worth up to $2,78 million for a maximum term of 180 days.
Gomes noted that crowdfunding in Brazil has effectively become a testing ground for new financial instruments. It eliminates the need for registry holders and depositories, as control can be exercised directly through the platform.
According to Gomes, more than half of the planned volume was issued in the first half of 2025 alone, confirming the $740 million forecast.
The president of CVM, João Pedro Nascimento, praised the crowdfunding model and emphasized that, despite its local origins, it is already attracting interest in international markets, including the United States.
Why is this important?
Brazil is one of the largest economies in Latin America, and the growth of the tokenization market here shows that the model works effectively. It allows small companies to bypass the complex rules of the traditional capital market.
Tokenization can also change the lending industry by lowering barriers for borrowers and investors and making the industry more accessible and less dependent on large financial structures.
Expert forecasts
Although the tokenization market in Brazil is already established, a recent public consultation proposing a relaxation of regulatory rules could give it new impetus.
The increase in the fundraising limit to $4,6 million and the removal of income restrictions proposed as part of the reforms could be key factors for further growth.
Bernardo Srur, president of the Brazilian Association of Crypto Economics (AB Crypto), believes that thanks to these changes, the market could exceed $1,8 million.
