What’s new? The Ethereum Foundation, a non-profit organization created to support the Ethereum blockchain, is shifting its focus to improving the user experience and scaling issues of the underlying network after a change in leadership in March. On April 21, Co-Executive Director Tomasz Stańczak explained how the organization has changed since the change in management structure.

What else is known? The changes are aimed at giving Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin more time for research and freeing him from day-to-day tasks and involvement in crisis management.

“Each time Vitalik shares insights or communicates a direction, he accelerates major long‑term breakthroughs,” Stańczak wrote, adding that Buterin’s recent posts have helped rebuild the community around the organization’s core values.

On March 1, the Ethereum Foundation announced that principal investigator Hsiao-Wei Wang and CEO of Ethereum execution client developer Nethermind Stańczak will become co-directors effective March 17.

Following the changes in the organization’s leadership structure, Buterin stepped back from day-to-day operations. He has since published proposals to address Ethereum’s privacy and performance issues.

On April 11, Buterin presented a privacy roadmap for the network. He suggested introducing features to anonymize user transactions, “ideally turned on by default.”

On April 20, Buterin proposed changing the contract language of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) to improve the efficiency and speed of the blockchain’s execution layer.

Stańczak emphasized that Buterin’s suggestions “will always carry weight,” while they should initiate discussions and promote progress in various areas of research. The executive said that the community can either refine or reject ideas.

For its part, the Ethereum Foundation will focus on “short-term” goals, including addressing user experience and scaling issues in upcoming upgrades to the protocol.

Stańczak added that the foundation will focus on scaling the underlying blockchain, supporting the scaling of Layer 2 (L2) networks based on it, and user experience improvements including interoperability in the Pectra, Fusaka, and Glamsterdam upgrades.
