“We attempted to create a theft-free crypto ecosystem, but unfortunately could not create a sustainable business model around it. We hope that we inspired new companies to take the torch of solving this problem,” the developers said.

They also said that due to the shutdown of services, user transactions may not go through. To solve this problem, crypto wallets need to disconnect from Harpie’s remote procedure call (RPC) module by switching to a different network in the wallet interface.

In the coming days, the team will launch a utility to move assets stored on the Harpie website to external platforms.

In addition, rewards from the first season of the referral program will also be paid out. Details about this will be announced on the project’s Discord channel.

Harpie was focused on delivering security services in the Web3 sector and offering to build firewalls on blockchain. Back in September 2022, Harpie closed a $4,5 million seed round of funding led by Dragonfly Capital with participation from Coinbase Ventures and NFT marketplace OpenSea.

The firm used the funding to build an Ethereum wallet security service in an effort to shield crypto users from the growing number of attacks.

At the moment, security remains a major concern for cryptocurrency users and service providers. Late last month, North Korean hackers from the Lazarus group carried out the largest single theft in history, stealing $1,5 billion from crypto exchange Bybit, which was later successfully laundered.
