What’s new? The European Commission has prepared a new package of sanctions against Russian oligarchs and officials, the restrictions will affect cryptocurrency assets. European politicians have proposed disconnecting three more Belarusian banks from SWIFT and banning sea transportation from the EU to Russia. The new sanctions will complement the measures already in place.
What had happened before? The EU has already excluded seven Russian banks from SWIFT and some exchanges have blocked access to Russian users’ cryptocurrency wallets.
The US Financial Crimes Enforcement Agency has published an appeal regarding sanctions against Russia. The regulator instructed cryptocurrency-related financial institutions to report any activity that may be seen as a way to evade restrictions.
