What’s new? On February 26, news about the third airdrop of the Optimism (OP) network’s tokens appeared on Twitter. The announcement was posted in an account called OptimismSND, but on the official page, OptimismFND, there is no announcement about the giveaway. According to the network’s allegedly fake account, users must leave their OP wallet address in the comments to receive OP.

What else is known? OptimismSND’s Twitter account has not been verified by representatives of the social network. The profile description is partially copied from the official account, including links to profiles on app development and community management. In this, the fake account was registered two years later than the official one, and it has fewer than 3000 followers. The network’s team has not yet commented on the token airdrop.

Earlier, hackers hacked the Twitter account of online broker Robinhood and posted a tweet advertising the launch of the RBH scam token on the BNB Chain through the PancakeSwap exchange. According to the company’s team, the source of the incident was a third-party infrastructure provider.

In February, Binance launched a portal to track airdrops officially backed by the exchange. The page allows one to track both completed and current giveaways.

What is known about Optimism? It is a Layer 2 (L2) Ethereum scaling solution that provides high transaction speeds and low fees. The OP token was issued on May 31, 2022, and 5% of the issue was distributed to 250 000 addresses. The community later proposed to exclude from future airdrops those who immediately sell the received assets, after the first airdrop, the OP rate dropped by 49%. As of February 27, OP ranks 79th in the cryptocurrency ranking with a capitalization of $631 million and is trading at $2,93, having gained 2,7% in 24 hours.

Optimism was one of the top three projects in terms of the amount of assets that will be unlocked in 2023. In February, MetaMask added support for Optimism to its bridge aggregator, and Coinbase launched the Ethereum-based Base blockchain testnet developed on Optimism’s OP Stack.
