What’s new? The X account of football player Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid striker and captain of the French national team, was hacked to promote the MBAPPE token. The asset’s capitalization soared to tens of millions of dollars in a few minutes before collapsing to almost zero. The creator of MBAPPE implemented the fraudulent Rug Pull scheme and withdrew investor funds.

What else is known? The asset was launched on Raydium, one of the leading decentralized crypto exchanges (DEXs) on the Solana blockchain. Some users suffered significant losses. For example, one investor bought MBAPPE for 7156 Solana (SOL) native tokens worth $1,03 million, which are valued at only $9200 after the exchange rate collapse.

But some were able to capitalize on the asset. Thus, an unknown investor specializing in the purchase of meme tokens spent 0,2 SOL worth $29 to buy MBAPPE, and three minutes later he sold them already for 866,13 SOL ($125 160). Thus, he increased his investment 4330 times. In the previous months, he traded 251 meme tokens, investing from 0,1 to 0,3 SOL in each. Although not all investments turned out to be successful, his total earnings amounted to $126 700.

Mbappe’s X account has 14,4 million followers. The tweet about the token has now been deleted, with no comment published on the situation.

Hacking celebrity accounts to promote projects is widespread among crypto scammers. Last March, the page of a senior executive of the USDC issuer was hacked to publish a link to participate in an airdrop. Connecting a wallet to such an address threatens to lose all crypto assets.

A similar situation in September occurred with the team of the popular meme token PEPE. Ads for scam tokens and links to malicious sites started appearing on the project’s social networks.

In June of this year, rapper 50 Cent’s accounts were hacked to promote the GUNIT token. Users managed to invest $300 million in the asset, after which the fraudster withdrew all the funds.
