What’s new? The developers of the Hamster Kombat game for Telegram have announced the launch of their own Layer 2 (L2) network called Hamster Network based on the TON blockchain. According to the team, Hamster Network will provide a fast and scalable infrastructure for games and decentralized applications (dApps) that require high speed. Along with this, the new network will offer low transaction fees.
What else is known? The network is launched in collaboration with the TON team. The developers noted that Telegram has played an important role in accelerating the global adoption of cryptocurrencies by opening up access to Web3 technologies through internal mini-apps that do not require installation to its nearly one billion users.
Starting February 21, Telegram will support mini-apps only on the TON blockchain
The initiative has been criticized in the crypto community due to the risks of centralization
Hamster Network is powered by the TON virtual machine and its smart contracts are fully compatible with the underlying blockchain, allowing developers to port their dApps. Also, for security and decentralization, all records from Hamster Network are hosted on the underlying TON blockchain.
The team noted that Hamster Network is launching simultaneously with all the necessary infrastructure, including a wallet, a cross-chain protocol for transferring assets from other networks, and a decentralized crypto exchange (DEX). Some development teams have already started building other products for Hamster Network.
The team also encouraged users to join in testing the new network by participating in quests with Hamster Boost, for which rewards can be earned.
