What’s new? Pakistani authorities will establish a national crypto council to develop legislation for the sector. This came to light after local officials held a meeting with US President Donald Trump’s advisors on digital assets.
What else is known? The Council will be a specialized advisory body, which will include representatives of the government, regulators, and industry experts.
It will oversee the development of crypto policies and also collaborate with other countries to develop a standardized framework, the report said, citing a statement from the Finance Ministry.
Until last year, Pakistan’s Finance Ministry had opposed the creation of crypto regulation, but later, the ministry’s chief Muhammad Aurangzeb said he would look into the issue again and with an open mind. In a new report, he emphasized the importance of a well-regulated digital asset market structure.
More and more countries are watching the United States, which has been taking steps to create cryptocurrency-friendly policies since Trump’s re-election.
