Key points:
- Ripple has recorded a surge in scams targeting XRP holders and has urged the community to be more vigilant.
- Following the Ripple Swell event, scammers have become more active, using fake videos and hacked accounts.
Ripple reported on social network X that it had discovered a new scam scheme related to the Ripple Swell event. The scheme targets XRP users, so the company posted a message urging the community to be cautious. Ripple stated:
“We saw a big surge in fake “Live” YouTube videos during and after Swell. Reminder: Ripple will NEVER ask you to send us XRP. Stay vigilant!”
The company emphasized that major industry events such as Ripple Swell regularly provide opportunities for coordinated fraudulent attacks. It also reiterated a warning issued in July about YouTube accounts being hacked to impersonate Ripple’s official channel. That post noted:
“We’ve noticed an uptick of XRP scams on YouTube – scammers are stealing accounts and then updating the page to impersonate Ripple’s official account. Reminder: Ripple or our execs will NEVER ask you to send us XRP.”
The growing popularity of XRP is attracting scammers
XRP received a significant boost after Ripple Swell and a series of new announcements from the company. More and more large organizations, including Evernorth, are developing treasury solutions based on XRP, which has increased attention to the asset. The launch of the first pure spot XRP ETF has also intensified the discussion about its role in institutional portfolios.
The growing interest in XRP has inevitably led to an increase in fraudulent schemes. Ripple emphasizes the importance of verifying information sources, and experts note that improved educational initiatives and more reliable verification tools will help increase user safety.
