What’s new? A solo miner independently mined a full block of bitcoin and was rewarded with 3,15 BTC. The block was mined on June 5 at 899 826 as part of the CKpool pool. The user earned $327 625 in subsidies and $2761 in transaction fees, according to Mempool Explorer.
What else is known? The miner was operating with a weekly hashrate of 6,11 PH/s but then increased it to 261 PH/s. He probably rented the extra power to increase his chances of getting a block reward.
“This hash rate was almost certainly a rental based on there being only one worker, though the account has been mining for a while with a much lower hashrate,” noted Con Kolivas, the CKpool developer.
For a solo miner to mine an entire bitcoin block is a big deal. With a total blockchain hashrate of 796 EH/s as of June 5, a solo miner had a 0,03% chance, roughly 1 in 3050.
The block mined by the user was the 300th block mined under CKpool.

In March, a solo miner also single-solved one of the blockchain’s blocks and received the full $263 000 reward. He became the 297th solo miner to mine an entire block within the Solo CKPool.
Last July, a sole CKpool member miner with a 500 Gh/s device also mined an entire block with a $206 000 reward — his odds were 1 in 1,3 billion.
