Instagram blocked artist’s @metaverse account after Facebook rebranded to Meta

What’s new? On November 2, the Instagram user account with the nickname @metaverse found itself blocked after Facebook changed its corporate name to Meta. The account, created in 2012, belongs to the Australian artist Thea-Mai Baumann and her works were featured in it. It is reported by the New York Times.

How did events develop? On November 2, Baumann discovered that her account had been blocked. An explanation of the reason appeared on the screen: “Your account has been blocked for pretending to be someone else.” According to the artist, over the next few weeks, she tried to confirm her identity with Instagram but received no response:

“This account is a decade of my life and work. I didn't want my contribution to be simply wiped from the Internet.”

What is the result? Baumann was only able to gain control of the account after the New York Times journalists intervened. Instagram then explained that the blockage was due to an error and the account would be restored. It wasn't until December 4 that the artist was able to access her profile.
