Key points:
- The Arkham platform has compiled a ranking of the richest people in the crypto world, placing Satoshi Nakamoto in first place with a fortune of around $115 billion.
- The list includes both active entrepreneurs such as Justin Sun and Vitalik Buterin, as well as people who have lost access to their huge crypto assets.
- A significant portion of the fortunes in the ranking are “frozen” funds that are visible on the blockchain but remain inaccessible to their owners.
The Arkham analytics platform has published a ranking of the richest participants in the crypto industry. Satoshi Nakamoto tops the list, whose fortune is virtually impossible to move due to the long-term inaccessibility of his assets.
According to the study, Nakamoto’s 22 000 bitcoin addresses hold approximately $115 billion in coins mined by him in 2009–2010. This amount makes him one of the twenty richest people in the world, according to the Bloomberg index.
Who else made the list
In second place is TRON founder Justin Sun, with an on-chain fortune of around $1,9 billion. He owns large holdings of stETH, TRX, BTC, and stablecoins. Against the backdrop of recent discussions surrounding the World Liberty Financial project, he has once again found himself in the spotlight.
Third place goes to Estonian banker Rain Lohmus, known for losing access to 250 000 ETH he purchased during the Ethereum ICO. His funds, worth approximately $886 million, are visible on the blockchain, but the owner himself cannot use them.
In fourth place is Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who owns approximately $867 million in crypto assets, mainly in ETH.
James Howells, who lost access to 8000 BTC that he accidentally threw away in a landfill in 2013, ranks fifth. Today, these coins are worth about $838 million, but remain inaccessible.
Similar stories continue to appear in the ranking. For example, Stefan Thomas cannot access 7002 BTC due to a lost IronKey password — he has only two attempts left. Clifton Collins, who lost a box of fishing gear containing the keys to 6000 BTC, ranks seventh with a fortune of $629 million.
Owen Gunden, who has had large savings since the days of Mt. Gox, ranks eighth with an on-chain capital of $561 million. Ninth place goes to F2Pool founder and Cobo CEO Shixing Mao (DiscusFish), and POAP founder Patricio Worthalter closes out the top 10 with a fortune of $226 million.
