What’s new? The team behind the decentralized landing platform CrediX disappeared from social media and deleted its website after a $4.5 million attack on August 4. Earlier, media outlets reported that the platform had been exploited, allowing an attacker to take control of the administrator's wallet.
What else is known? The attacker issued unsecured tokens and depleted the asset pools, after which the team closed the interface and warned users against making new deposits.
Companies in the fields of information security and blockchain analytics reported that the assets were redirected from the Sonic network to Ethereum and placed at several addresses.
A few hours after the attack, CrediX announced that it would reimburse users within 48 hours and initiated the withdrawal of funds under the contracts. However, a detailed recovery plan has not been published, and according to the information security company CertiK, the website has been unavailable since August 4.
Thus, CrediX users have fallen victim to an exit scam. In such a scheme, the creators of the project themselves run away with investors’ money, deleting all information about it from social networks.
This incident adds to the growing list of exit scams in decentralized finance. In May 2023, the crypto project DF Fintoch disappeared with $32 million of users’ funds, while the creators of the decentralized exchange Swamprum on the Arbitrum network disappeared with $3 million in deposits.
