What’s new? On April 18, former US President Donald Trump released the second series of his collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) called Trump Digital Trading Cards. He announced the new series on his Truth Social network. Like the first set, the collection features stylized images of Trump in various guises. The set includes 47 000 NFTs, of which 46 000 were for sale. The tokens are created on the Polygon blockchain and cost $99.

What is known about the collection? Trump released his collection in December 2022 at $99 per token, buyers were automatically entered into the drawing, and buying 47 or more tokens could get a chance to win a meeting with the former president. The collection sold out within hours and more than doubled in value on the secondary market.
On April 4, after Trump was indicted in the financial forgery case, sales of the collection rose by 462%.
The second series of the collection does not involve a drawing for prizes. A single user can buy up to 47 tokens with a credit card, and up to 100 with cryptocurrency. There is no option to select a specific image during the purchase, tokens are randomly generated and then placed in the user’s wallet. The cards have different levels of rarity, up to 10 identical cards can be found in a collection.
In October 2022, actor Anthony Hopkins’ first NFT collection was sold out in less than seven minutes. Due to high demand, the launch was delayed by nearly an hour.
In March 2023, the Starbucks coffee chain sold 2000 NFTs in 20 minutes at $100 apiece. The tokens are part of the Starbucks Odyssey loyalty program and give access to various bonuses.
