What’s new? Ethereum co-founder and Consensys CEO Joe Lubin said the firm is in talks with major financial institutions in one unnamed “very big” country about potential Ethereum developments.

“We’re talking to major sovereign wealth funds and banks in a particular country who are interested in, ‘How do build infrastructure in the Ethereum ecosystem?’” the developer said.

Lubin suggested that as part of the collaboration, the way forward could include building infrastructure on the underlying Ethereum blockchain or developing its own Layer 2 (L2) solutions.

Last week, Consensys led an investment in publicly traded SharpLink Gaming, which raised $425 million to launch its ETH treasury. As a result of the deal, Lubin took over as chairman of SharpLink’s board of directors.

According to Lubin, SharpLink will seek to take advantage of staking, restaking, and DeFi protocols in order to increase returns. This proactive approach differs from the bitcoin strategy popularized by Michael Saylor’s Strategy: such companies seek to simply increase the amount of BTC per share through accumulation.
