What’s new? Payment platform Mercuryo has launched Spend a debit cryptocurrency card in partnership with Mastercard, available through the Ledger Live app from crypto wallet provider Ledger. With it, users can directly make fiat currency purchases with digital assets.
What else is known? The Spend card can be activated instantly and without fees directly within the Ledger Live app. Once activated, it allows users to convert their bitcoins or Ethereum into fiat currency for purchases at over 150 million merchants worldwide where the Mastercard network is accepted.
Support for stablecoins and leading altcoins will be added in the coming months. The card is compatible with Apple Pay and Google Pay, allowing payments to be made online and in physical stores.
Spend can be funded directly from non-custodial crypto wallets, ensuring users have full control over their funds.
Meanwhile, transactions made with Spend are equipped with AML and KYC protocols aimed at anti-money laundering. The monthly spending limit is set at 40 000 EUR.
The initiative is currently available to users residing in the European Economic Area (EEA), but the parties aim to expand global access by offering more people the ability to spend cryptocurrency in a secure, transparent, and instantaneous way, the press release clarified.
Founded in 2018, Mercuryo partners with crypto wallets MetaMask and Trust Wallet, as well as crypto exchanges 1inch and PancakeSwap.
