What’s new? The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has applied for registration of a trademark dedicated to virtual goods and NFTs. The information about this appeared on The Block’s website.
Information on The Block website
What does the application say? An application for trademark registration does not mean that the stock exchange has to necessarily launch an NFT marketplace. However, the NYSE shows an interest in intellectual property protection. The application states the following:
“Provision of an online marketplace for buyers, sellers and traders of virtual and digital assets, artwork, collectibles, and non-fungible tokens; […] develop and design virtual retail stores; provision of an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of downloadable digital art images authenticated by NFTs.”
What had happened before? This application is not the exchange’s first move into the field of non-fungible tokens. The NYSE issued its first NFTs in April 2021, marking the IPOs of high-tech US companies such as Spotify, Snowflake, Unity, DoorDash, Roblox, and Cooping.
