OKX crypto exchange website blocked in Russia

What’s new? The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) blocked access to the website of cryptocurrency exchange OKX. According to the RBC material, the agency added the domain name of the platform to the list of banned sites for distributing information prohibited in Russia. The reason for this was the decision of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Reaction from exchange representatives. The specific reason for blocking OKX is unknown. Representatives of the exchange said in Discord that the platform did not impose restrictions on users from Russia. The OKX team stressed that services for Russian clients are provided in full.
What is known about OKX? It is a centralized exchange (CEX), founded in 2017. Its headquarters are located in the Seychelles. More than 350 tokens and 500 trading pairs are available on the platform, fee-free conversion, as well as perpetual swaps, futures and options. As of October 5, 12:30 UTC, OKX is ranked third by trading volume among CEX with $1,47 billion, according to CoinGecko.
In December 2021, Russia stopped blocking the Tor network. Meanwhile, the main site of the project is blocked by Roskomnadzor. The browser was also included in the register of prohibited information.
In April 2022, the Ministry of Finance supported the idea of transferring data of crypto investors to law enforcement agencies. The Ministry adopted part of the amendments to the bill on the regulation of cryptocurrencies, which were proposed by the law enforcement agencies. Thus, Russia may prohibit advertising of unlicensed crypto platforms, while exchanges and other platforms will be obliged to provide data at the request of investigators.
