SatoshiLabs warned about the threat of hacking Trezor wallets

A hack into the MailChimp email service has led to a leak of wallet users’ data

What’s new? Trezor hardware wallet users may become victims of phishing attacks. The attackers have gained access to Trezor users’ personal data as a result of the hacking of the email service. This was reported by the company’s representatives on Twitter.

What details of the incident are known? The MailChimp email service, which Trezor uses for marketing newsletters, was attacked. Trezor representatives managed to disable the phishing domain trezor.us (the wallet’s real domain is trezor.io), from which the scammers were sending emails to the wallet’s customer base. Users were offered to download an allegedly new version of the application to manage their crypto wallet.

The total number of affected users is not yet known. Trezor representatives advised users not to open the emails allegedly coming from the company, as well as to use anonymous email addresses for cryptocurrency transactions. Until the situation is resolved, Trezor will refuse any communication through this channel.

Trezor is the world’s first hardware wallet for storing bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, created in 2014 by SatoshiLabs. The wallet can operate without a network connection and is designed for users who want to store their digital assets securely.

What had happened before? In March 2022, SatoshiLabs suspended the supply of Trezor hardware crypto wallets to Russia. This happened amid economic sanctions against the Russian Federation.
