What’s new? WhatsApp Messenger, owned by Meta (formerly Facebook), has entered into a partnership with the Novi payment service. It is also owned by Meta. The collaboration will allow users in the US to make instant transfers in cryptocurrency through the application. Novi’s CEO Stephane Kasriel posted this on his Twitter account.
There's a new way to try the @Novi digital wallet. Starting today, a limited number of people in the US will be able to send and receive money using Novi on @WhatsApp, making sending money to family and friends as easy as sending a message. 💸💬 pic.twitter.com/dGz3lejri7— Stephane Kasriel (@skasriel) December 8, 2021
What is known about the new project? Novi's digital wallet has been added to WhatsApp as part of a pilot testing of the cryptocurrency transfer feature. A wallet, which supports Pax Dollar (USDP) stablecoin, was piloted in June 2021.
“There is a new way to try the Novi digital wallet. A limited number of users in the US will now be able to send and receive money using Novi on WhatsApp. Sending money to family and friends is as easy as sending a message,” Kasriel reported.
How will the payments function? They work in the same way as sending attachments on WhatsApp. To access this option, you need to tap on the paperclip icon on Android or the plus icon on iOS and then select “Payment.” There is no fee for transfers. There is also no limit on their frequency.
In the future, the function will also be available to users from other countries.
