What’s new? On May 17, gaming studio Sky Mavis announced that the blockchain game Axie Infinity has become available on the App Store for iOS devices. The app will first appear in Latin America and Asia, including Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. After this news, the rate of the gaming token AXS jumped by 25% to $8,5. By 12:00 UTC, the value corrected to $7,43, according to Binance.

Axie Infinity is a Play-to-Earn (P2E) blockchain game in which users can earn money by selling, breeding fantasy creatures, and battling against other players. It was developed in 2018 by the Vietnamese studio Sky Mavis. The game uses AXS and SLP tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. All creatures in Axie Infinity are non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

What else is known? In December 2022, Sky Mavis launched a version of the app with limited functionality on Malaysia’s Google Play. This allowed the development team to test and improve the game before rolling it out to other countries. The company said it took a similar approach to the App Store in Latin America and Asia.

Sky Mavis noted that 70% of new members of the Axie Infinity community learn about the game from friends and family, so for its development and audience growth the ability to simply distribute is crucial.

iOS players will reportedly be able to use their NFTs in this release. According to Sky Mavis, this is the first time Apple has allowed such assets purchased outside of its own ecosystem into the App Store.
