What’s new? Law enforcement authorities have apprehended a 54-year-old resident of Shelekhovo suspected of stealing cryptocurrency mining equipment. The man managed to steal more than 20 pieces of equipment from the victim’s office. According to a report of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior of the Russian Federation in the Irkutsk region, the amount of damage exceeds 1 million Russian rubles (RUB).

Details of the case. A private entrepreneur turned to the police and reported that an unknown person had stolen the mining equipment from his office under threats. According to the case file, the suspect broke into the room at night, threatening with a weapon, locked the 70-year-old watchman in an adjoining office, and then stole the rigs.

Police officers later identified the criminal and detained him. A criminal case has been opened on this fact under Part 3 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (robbery on a particularly large scale). The man confessed that he had committed a crime for the sake of money, he had also been previously convicted of thefts.

In February, the police initiated criminal proceedings against three residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory who tried to steal the mining rigs. The attackers took 14 ASIC miners worth over 14 million RUB out of the victim’s garage. They were later detained by the police on the highway as they were transporting the stolen equipment.
