What’s new? Web 3.0 domain name provider Unstoppable Domains together with the exchange and crypto wallet service Blockchain com will apply to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) for registration of the “.blockchain” domain. In this way, the parties intend to strengthen the adoption of Web 3.0 technologies through a convenient and low-cost digital identity solution.
What else is known? The parties have one year to prepare the application, as ICANN will start another call for applications in 2025 and implement new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) by Q2 2026.
If approved by ICANN, users around the world will be able to register with a Web 3.0 domain “.blockchain” that is compatible with web browsers and email.
It is noted that over the years the Blockchain.com platform has connected 40 million verified users, created more than 90 million crypto wallets and conducted crypto transactions worth $1,2 trillion.
At the end of last year, it became known that the development team of the “dog” meme token Shiba Inu (SHIB) together with domain provider D3 will apply to ICANN for the launch of the “.shib” top-level domain (TLD).
Blockchain com had earlier received a major payment institution license from the Central Bank of Singapore and also announced its entry into the Nigerian market.
