What else is known? The appointment follows news that the Department of Treasury and the Department of Commerce, under an executive order from President Donald Trump, have begun work on creating a sovereign wealth fund that could potentially include digital assets. The fund is expected to be in place by the end of this year.

Williams currently serves as head of Regulatory and Legislative Affairs & Regulatory Counsel at Galaxy Digital and teaches part-time at George Washington University Law School.

He previously served as deputy assistant secretary at the Treasury Department under Steven Mnuchin from 2018 to 2020, where he advised on issues related to digital assets. He also worked under Senator Thom Tillis in the US Senate and Congressmen Robert Hurt and John Boehner in the House of Representatives.
